Uranium Major Niger Urged to Review Contracts, ABC News, NIAMEY (Reuters) 14 March 2010, - The new junta ruling in Niger, one of the world’s biggest uranium producers, should review and possibly renegotiate dozens of resource exploitation contracts, civil rights groups said on Saturday. The West African state, which produces 7.5 percent of the world’s uranium, has a longstanding partnership with French nuclear group Areva as well as more recent ones with Australian, Canadian, Chinese, South Korean and other groups.
“Given the opacity surrounding the granting of mining and oil permits in recent years, we urge the immediate creation of a commission of inquiry … and any necessary steps, notably the renegotiation of contracts,” the ROTAB group, a collective of anti-corruption pressure groups, said in a statement.

February 17, 2010Key’s uranium mining interests The Standard By: Marty G February 16th, 2010 - There’s a few things about Key’s story regarding his shares in Jackson Mining that don’t stack up. First, he says Jackson Mining was just an Aussie gold mining company when he bought them and that they didn’t get involved in uranium until a merger that saw become part of a company with uranium mines in South America. But Jackson mining was already involved in uranium exploration in South America before that merger when Key listed his interest in the company last year. Second,
………..Jackson Company has significant interests in mining uranium in Australia and Argentina, in the new guise of the company which is called Cauldron. ……..Key’s government continues with its moves to open up the conversation estate to Australian mining interests.
Radioactive waste entering drinking water wells, from uranium mining
January 29, 2010Why do nuclear companies always start by denying there is a problem when there is a problem, only admitting it when there is a lot of pressure hoping the issue is already forgotten? For years AREVA denied the problems in Niger and now in Brazil! With such track record do they really expect us to believe anything they say?
