Mutations in the UK, USA, South Africa and Brazil, which emerged after the corona virus that spread the whole world, continue to affect the world.
According to the New York Times, the study conducted in the USA found new mutations in addition to these mutations. According to research conducted at Louisiana State University, 7 different mutations of an existing mutation were identified.
“Something is clearly happening with this mutation,” said Jeremy Kamil, a virologist at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center and author of the study.
‘THEY WERE NOT DETECTED BEFORE’
Jeremy Kamil stated that in the study conducted with samples taken from Covid-19 tests conducted in hospitals in Louisiana, mutations that were not detected before were encountered, “The mutation changed the proteins on the surface of the corona virus. Known as spike proteins, they are folded chains of more than 1,200 molecular building blocks called amino acids. “We detected a different sequence in the 677th amino acid of Covid-19 in the detected mutations.”
Kamil, who shared the information he detected with doctors around the world, stated that doctors in other parts of the world also reported changes in the 677th amino acid, and explained that 6 different mutations belonging to this lineage were detected.
“We are currently unable to give any starting position as to where this mutation originated,” said Emma Hodcroft, epidemiologist at the University of Bern in Germany and author of the study.
