Black fungus epidemic in India: The number of cases exceeded 28 thousand

The Ministry of Health of India announced that more than 28,200 people in the country have had black fungus (mucormycosis) disease so far.

According to the news in the Indian press, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan noted that 28 thousand 252 people from 28 states have detected black fungus so far, 24 thousand 370 of these people have been caught with Covid-19 before.

Stating that the highest numbers of black fungus infections were detected in the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat in the west of the country, Minister Vardhan stated that 6 thousand 329 cases of black fungus were recorded in Maharashtra and 5 thousand 486 cases in Gujarat.

Experts point out that mucormycosis, which is caught by those who survived Covid-19 and called “black fungus” among the people, can be fatal in some cases.

On May 21, it was announced that 219 people died in India due to black fungus.
