Brazilian Health Minister Eduardo Pazuello said a new mutation of the coro navirus has been detected in the Amazon, and although there is no definitive study, the new mutation could be 3 times more contagious. The minister also stated that the available vaccines in the tests are effective against the mutation.

A team of scientists led by immunologist Ester Sabino, a professor at the University of Sao Paulo, collected genomic data from COVID-19 tests in Manaus, Brazil, in their study in January. The study found that 42 percent of the cases had a new mutation similar to the Kent and South Africa mutations.
Sabina said that they found that the mutation was more contagious, explaining the study results.
