The delta variant is spreading. The number of delta variant cases seen in 30 provinces last week increased 3 times.
Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said that the delta variant was detected in 750 people in 36 provinces.
No new delta plus variant was identified, except for 3 cases in 3 provinces.
TOTAL NUMBER OF CASE IS ALSO INCREASING
Drawing attention to the increase in the total number of cases, Koca said, “When we look at the last week, we see that the cases that should have decreased have not decreased, and that there has been an increase of nearly 20 percent over the weekend compared to the previous weekend.”
Koca stated that the increases are mostly seen in provinces such as Diyarbakır, Şırnak, Adıyaman where the vaccination rate is low.
FOURTH WAVE WARNING
Emphasizing the importance of vaccination in the fight against the epidemic, the Minister of Health also issued a fourth wave warning.
Saying, “There is no such situation at the moment, but it does not mean that it will not happen,” Koca said: The only condition for this to happen is vaccination. It is possible to prevent the fourth wave with intensive vaccination and ensuring herd immunity.
WILL THE VACCINE BE MANDATORY?
Fahrettin Koca also noted that when the social immunity reaches 70 or 80 percent, the epidemic will end and normal life will return.
So, if the epidemic increases again, will there be a vaccination requirement? Giving the answer to this question, Koca said, “We do not want to put a public obligation on our agenda.”
“We want to use the method of convincing more citizens. We need to go to the feet of the citizens and be active with more mobile and intense teams,” Koca said.
