First loss of life from black fungus in Iraq – Health News

Iraq has recorded the first death from a black fungus infection in India, which has killed more than 200 people.

In a statement to the local press, Saddam et-Tavil, Director General of Health of Zikar province in the south of Iraq, stated that a black fungus infection was detected in a person who died in Nasiriyah, the center of the province.

Tavil noted that the infection in question was detected during the issuance of the death certificate of the deceased.

Health experts stated that the fungus attacks those with weak immune systems and warned that the disease is linked to the new type of corona virus (Covid-19).

Black fungus disease, which infected about 10 thousand people in India, caused the death of more than 200 people.

An investigation was started on whether mucormycosis cases, which are frequently seen in people who have had a new type of corona virus (Covid-19) in the state of Kerala, India, are caused by the pollution in the oxygen used for respiratory support.
