New Covid-19 mutation detected in New York

Two separate research teams in the USA announced that they detected a new Covid-19 mutation in central and northeastern New York.

They explained that while the mutation detected by teams at Columbia University Medical Center was named B.1.526 by genomics researchers, the mutation was detected in a large part of the city.

It was stated that the mutation that can escape from the body’s reaction to vaccines and become more common has some similarities with the South African mutation.

Speaking to CNN, a team at Columbia University Medical Center said, “We have observed a steady increase in the rate of detection of the new mutation from the end of December to mid-February. In the last two weeks we have detected an alarming increase of up to 12.7 percent.” “The alarming increase over the past few weeks was due to this mutation,” he said.

Director of the Research Center at Columbia University, who led the study team, Dr. “This mutation probably originated in homes in New York,” said David Ho. “Viruses always mutate. The more people become infected and the longer they are infected, the greater the chance that viruses will change. Billions of copies of a virus can enter a patient’s body, change or mutate inside, ”he said.

In a new study by scientists from the University of California San Francisco, it was stated that there is a new variant of Covid-19 that is more contagious and severely ill.

In the study, it was recorded that the said research team found the new type of Covid-19 as a result of their examination on 2 thousand 172 test samples from 44 regions of the state on September 1, 2020 – January 29, 2021, “B.1.427 / B.1.429” or “20C / It was pointed out that the new strain, named L452R “, exhibited a different mutation pattern from the Covid-19 variants that first appeared in England and South America.
