New Covid-19 variant detected in Nigeria – health news

It was reported that a new variant of the new type of corona virus (Kovid-19) named B.1.2.5 was detected in the West African country of Nigeria.

Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC) Director Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu stated in a statement that the newly detected variant in the country is different from the B.1.1.7 variant of Covid-19, which emerged in the UK, and has not yet been identified as alarming.

Ihekweazu said that researchers and scientists in the country have started studies on 130 samples to better understand this new mutation.

Noting that 54 cases of the new variant of Covid-19 named B.1.1.7 have been detected in the country so far, Ihekweazu said, “ A new variant of Covid-19 named B.1.2.5 has emerged and this variant has been detected in Nigeria and 15 countries. “We need to be careful while doing research on this variant.”

Ihekweazu stated that it is extremely important for the public to pay maximum attention to the counter mask, social distance and hygiene rules of Covid-19.
