Penalty for attacking doctor with oxygen cylinder

The person who attacked the doctor with an oxygen cylinder in Trabzon was sentenced to 5 years in prison.

The incident took place on April 26 last year at Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) Faculty of Medicine Farabi Hospital in Kalkınma Mahallesi.

65-year-old TD, who was treated for lung cancer and had breathing difficulties, died despite the intervention of doctors. The relatives of the patients, who received the news of the death, started to discuss with the officials in the emergency department. As the discussion escalated, some of the patients’ relatives broke the windows and attacked doctor Esra Ersöz Genç, nurse Merve Aydın and security guard Gökhan Bezan, on duty in the emergency room with an oxygen tube. The attackers were taken out by private security guards and police teams.

A lawsuit was filed at the 4th Criminal Court of First Instance against İhsan Aydın (35), who was detained after the attack and released pending trial from the courthouse where he was transferred. At the end of the trial, the defendant without arrest, İhsan Aydın, was acquitted of the crime of ‘attempting to injure with a gun’, 5 months for ‘damaging public property’, 5 months for ‘resisting the duty’, 3 years 1 month 15 days for ‘threatening with a gun’ and ‘ He was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment, including 1 year and 15 days, for ‘violation of workplace immunity’.
