PROF. DR. WHO IS AYHAN KUZU?
Born in Ankara in 1963 Ayhan KuzuCompleted my primary, secondary and high school education at the Turkish Education Association Ankara College. Later, he graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1986 with the highest grade point average of the period.
In the same year, he completed the exams first and started working as a research assistant at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, Department of General Surgery.
Between 1991-1992, he worked as a general surgeon and research assistant at the Department of General Surgery at Leeds University School of Medicine in England. During his stay at Leeds University, he learned surgical techniques in the treatment of bowel cancer. In particular, he worked on rectal cancer, intersphincteric resection, and colo-anal anastomosis techniques, which allow the patient to defecate in a normal way without binding his bowel to the bag after surgery.
In addition to these, he learned radical lymph dissection applied to gastric cancers, ileal reservoir anal anastomosis (restorative procto colectomy) operations performed in ulcerative colitis and familial polyposis (FAP – Polyposis coli).
He also received training on laparoscopic interventions, which are widely preferred today and allow all these operations to be performed in a closed manner without opening the abdominal region. At the end of these trainings, he received Laparoscopic Surgery Training Certificate from Leeds University.
During the same period, he worked as a research assistant in the ano-rectal physiology laboratory evaluating the defecation functions of the muscles that control the anus region and the bowel.
He presented the nine studies he completed in the period he found in England at various international meetings.
He received the title of General Surgery Specialist in 1993.
In 1998, he was appointed as a specialist to Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, General Surgery Clinic. He became Associate Professor in November 1999 and Professor in May 2005.
