A new study was conducted on smoking addiction. According to research published in the Lancet Medical Journal, approximately 8 million people died from smoking in 2019. Research shows that the fight against smoking addiction does not produce the desired result.
The world has reached an all-time high number of smokers. Today, 1 billion 100 million people smoke cigarettes. The most striking point of the study is that two-thirds of the world’s smokers live in 10 countries.
THERE IS IN TURKEY
Among these countries, China leads with 341 million cigarette addicts.
China is followed by India, Indonesia, the United States, and Russia.
Bangladesh, Japan, Turkey, Vietnam and the Philippines are also among the 10 countries.
RESEARCH WAS DONE IN 204 COUNTRIES
Half of these countries turned out to be unsuccessful in preventing smoking between the ages of 15-24. The mean age of starting smoking was 19 years.
The experts who conducted the study pointed out that 89 percent of those who started smoking before the age of 25 became addicted. It was emphasized that the epidemic of tobacco addiction cannot be prevented unless the number of people who start smoking is reduced significantly each year.
