WHAT IS ZIKA VIRUS?
It is a disease caused by the Zika virus, an RNA Virus from the flavivirus group, and transmitted to humans by mosquito bites. It was first discovered in Uganda in 1947 in a Rhesus monkey in the Zika Forest. It was first found in humans in 1954 in Nigeria. Symptoms may include fever, headache, red eyes, rash, muscle aches and joint pains. It is usually a mild disease, lasting 4-7 days.
